I’m delighted to announce that I have added child naming ceremonies to my repertoire. And I’ve already a few under my belt since completing my Humanists UK training back in the Summer.

As you’ll know, ‘christenings’ – as they are known by Christian Churches (or Aquiqah, for those from an Islamic tradition) – are the church-centred rites that accompany the arrival of a new baby. As Humanists we prefer a more fun approach that gets people together and uses words, music and celebration. We call them naming ceremonies.

I have found the ceremonies I have performed wonderfully uplifting and enjoyable. Hop over to my Instagram feed to see some pics from some recent ceremonies. And please don’t hesitate to call we if you have a new arrival and would like to welcome the wee one to their new, wonderful life.

Same sex marriage is now legal in Northern Ireland – bringing Northern Ireland into line with the rest of the United Kingdom. Same sex marriages can be performed from February 2020.

In June, the Court of Appeal in Belfast ruled that humanist marriages must be legally recognised in Northern Ireland following a case taken by model, Laura Lacole, and Republic of Ireland footballer, Eunan O’Kane.

I’ve been a Humanist Celebrant in Northern Ireland for just a few months. But I’m so delighted that there is so much interest in secular wedding ceremonies. I have attended several humanist ceremonies and they tend to be so much more focused on the couple and their friends and family.
